Wicks did a MOT on my wife's car yesterday. I asked if they could pump up the tyres before the MOT which they did for free. Thank you.

07:00 - Drop off car for MOT 08:00 - Go to pickup car and I’m told that it failed the MOT due to one of the rear tyres is below 1.6mm I’m told they don’t have Michelin to replace the existing ones, but they have equal quality tyres I could buy. I reply that I always use Michelin ( that I’ve use for the last 25 years) and I will not put anything else on the car. I’m told that I’m not allowed to drive the car, because it failed the MOT. I make the decision to take the car home. My work day is ruined, I’m on the phone looking for 2 Michelin pilot sport 5 to replace my Michelin pilot sport 4. I’m booked “tentative” for 16:00 in a tyre specialist, pending delivery of tyres. Fortunately, they arrive at 15:45 and tyres are replaced. Looking at the “old” Michelin pilot sport 4 - One tyre is completely legal - One tyre contains 3 of the 4 grooves above the legal limit. One groove was narrowing below or on the limit. Strictly speaking, they applied the full extent of the law, no argument here. 17:02 - I go back to the Hicks MOT I’m greeted with blunt “You’re too late for a re-test today” I polity reply, “Good Afternoon… I know, I’m here seeking a booking for a re-test tomorrow, what is your availability?” Next Day: 07:20 - Car is re-tested, Pass. I ask one of employees: “Why don’t sell Michelin? Any particular reason?” Reply: We do, but we need to order it... Conclusion: I will keep for my self the reason why I think they made the situation more dificult… when they could: a) Pass the car with two advisories saying the car is on the 1.6mm limit This would allow me to legally drive the car and replace the two tyres. b) Tell me they could supply the Michelin tyres This would allow me to immediately solve the problem, avoid the stress of finding the tyres and I would not have been driving illegally to replace the tyres.

Went to Hicks off the back of recommendations from the local Facebook group. The staff were very helpful and we got a date for a service in good time. Unfortunately there was an issue with our booking but the Hicks staff dealt with it with quibbling with us and in a very courteous and professional manner. Honest and reliable. Very impressed by them and will be using them again.

Very happy because my car passed its MOT. But they were easy to speak to and friendly on the phone. It is somewhere where I would use again. Cannot comment on other prices, but Mot was good value.

Simply great service from lovely people. Booked an MOT appointment, no waiting around, car was seen straight away. Was told car would be ready in an hour so walked across the street into town. They called asking for permission to change couple bits and gave me a price. Car was ready right away, passed the MOT and I was driving away an hour after I dropped it off. Thank you gents
